Planned Gifts
Planned gifts create extraordinary opportunities to support the Decatur County Family YMCA.
- Planned gifts (most commonly a donation made in your will or trust) cost nothing today and allow you to make an incredible impact, which is why so many people choose to make them.
- Planned Giving Fuels our Mission: At the Y, we rely on the generosity of our donors to continue our mission of putting Christian principles into practice through programs that build a healthy spirit, mind and body for all. Planned giving, such as bequests and gifts in wills, are critical to our ability to provide essential programs and services for our community to thrive. These gifts provide long-term support, ensuring that we can continue to make a positive impact on the lives of children and families in Decatur County for years to come.
- This enables you to retain control and use your assets during your and your spouse’s lifetimes, yet still have the satisfaction of making a major gift.
- In addition, your estate may be eligible for tax savings.
HOW TO MAKE A PLANNED GIFT:
Whether you are 18 or 108, everyone should have a will in place. People use wills to choose who gets their property, name guardians for minor children, provide a plan for pets, and more. Through a will, many people also choose to leave a part of their estate to the Decatur County Family YMCA and make an impact on the causes they love for years to come.
There are several ways to include the Y as part of your financial and estate planning. Tax benefits can include an immediate charitable deduction; avoidance of capital gains tax; reduction of estate taxes, and others. As with all tax matters, please consult with your attorney and tax advisor for information specific to your situation.
- WILLS & BEQUESTS — You want to leave money to the Decatur County Family YMCA in your will. You also want the flexibility to change your will in the event that life circumstances change. You can do both!
- By including a bequest to the Y in your will or living trust, your gift also entitles your estate to an unlimited federal estate tax charitable deduction. In as little as one sentence you can complete your gift. This type of donation to the Decatur County Family YMCA in your will or living trust helps ensure that we continue our mission for years to come.
- BENEFICIARY DESIGNATIONS — You may have assets, such as life insurance, that were purchased when you needed protection, or an IRA that was funded for retirement. You may determine that you no longer need them for those purposes. You may benefit from tax considerations by designating the Decatur County Family YMCA as the beneficiary.
Not only is it an easy way to give, but it’s also flexible—you aren’t locked into the choices you make today. You can review and adjust beneficiary designations anytime you want.
- RETIREMENT PLAN ASSETS are a great way to support the work at the Decatur County Family YMCA because they not only help support our mission, but they also can provide tax relief for your loved ones.
- Money in an employee retirement plan, 401(k) or IRA has yet to be taxed. When a distribution is made from your retirement plan account to a beneficiary, that person will owe federal income tax.
- Consider leaving your loved ones less heavily taxed assets and leaving your retirement plan assets to the Decatur County Family YMCA to support our work. As a nonprofit organization, we are tax-exempt and will receive the full amount of what you designate. You can take advantage of this gift opportunity in the following ways:
- Name us as beneficiary of your plan. This requires you to update your beneficiary designation form through your plan administrator. Here you can designate the Decatur County Family YMCA as the primary beneficiary for a percentage or specific amount. You can also make the Decatur County Family YMCA the contingent beneficiary so that the Decatur County Family YMCA will receive the balance of your plan only if your primary beneficiary doesn't survive you.
- With an IRA charitable rollover, if you are 70½ years old or older, you can take advantage of a simple way to help those we serve and receive tax benefits in return. You can give up to $100,000 from your IRA directly to a qualified charity such as the Decatur County Family YMCA without having to pay income taxes on the money.
- MEMORIALS & TRIBUTE GIFTS — Establishing a memorial or tribute gift is a meaningful way to honor your loved one or celebrate a special occasion such as a birthday while supporting the work of the Y’s mission. Your memorial or tribute gift will be a lasting tribute to your loved one and make a difference in the lives of those we serve.
- ENDOWED GIFTS — When you make a donation to our endowment, you give a gift with both immediate and long-term benefits. Here’s how it works: Endowment donations are invested. A portion of the annual income from the investment is used to address immediate needs at the Decatur County Family YMCA. The balance remains invested to ensure perpetual support.
Already made the Decatur County Family YMCA a beneficiary in your will, retirement plan or insurance policy? Thank you so much! We would like to thank you and welcome you into our Heritage Club. By letting us know, we can ensure that your gifts are used in line with your wishes.
Information you share will be kept confidential and we respect any desire to remain anonymous. We know that life circumstances can change and you may need to alter or reconsider your gift in the future—that’s alright! Reporting your gift today does not obligate you now nor in the future.
