The YMCA\u2019s Diabetes Prevention Program, you can work with others in a small group setting to learn how to adopt habits that will improve your overall health and well-being and reduce your risk.\u00a0 Programs like the YMCA\u2019s Diabetes Prevention Program have been shown to prevent or delay type 2 diabetes in individuals over age 60 by 70%.<\/p>\n

Risk for developing type 2 diabetes may be reduced or eliminated by weight loss, healthier eating and increased physical activity.<\/p>\n The YMCA\u2019s Diabetes Prevention Program is an evidence-based 12 month, small-group program designed to help people who are at high risk for developing Type-2 diabetes.\u00a0 This program meets weekly for 16 weeks (the Core of the Program), then bi-weekly for sessions 17-19, and monthly for sessions 20-25.\u00a0 These one-hour, educational sessions will cover topics such as eating less fat, increasing physical activity, how to reduce stress risk by making simple, healthier lifestyle choices and more. The program has two main goals: to lose 5% - 7% of your body weight and build up to 150 minutes of physical activity.\u00a0 The YMCA's Diabetes Prevention Program uses a CDC- approved curriculum and is part of the CDC-led National Diabetes Prevention Program.<\/p>\n To participate in the program, you must:<\/p>\n *Asian individuals BMI \u2265 22<\/p>\n If you don't have a blood test result, you must have a qualifying risk score.\u00a0\u00a0Click here to take an Online Quiz to see if you qualify for the program<\/a><\/p>\nClick here to download a flyer about the program<\/a><\/h4>\n
