Beginning November 15th, 2021 the Decatur Shelby County YMCA is proud to offer two options of Military Memberships for service men and women and their families:

  • Both Decatur Shelby County YMCA locations will offer a $25 Joiner’s Fee for veterans, military service members and their families who do not otherwise qualify for a Y membership through DOD Military Outreach Initiative / Title 10 (outlined below).  To receive this $25 Joiner’s Fee proof of service is required, and therefore military memberships cannot be completed online. Please stop by or contact your local YMCA (Decatur County Family or Shelby County) for more information so that we may assist you with this membership category.

In 1939, the Hayes-Taylor YMCA was the first YMCA in Greensboro to allow membership of non-white citizens. Caesar Cone II named this YMCA in honor of his butler, Andrew Taylor, and his cook, Sallie Hayes.
